Brief personal news - update
I've spoken to my Mum in the last half an hour - she's now home from hospital. The good news is that they got all of the tumour out and that it was a grade 2 (therefore benign). She will have to have follow up scans to ensure no cells got left behind and are growing again, but the prognosis is generally good. Now we just have the long process of healing and recovery. I will be going down to Gloucestershire on Thursday after work to spend the weekend with my Mum (and my Dad and brother).

Congratulations on the good news! Benign is very good, when you're talking about tumors. Enjoy the time this weekend.
I'm so glad to hear that she is doing well, and I hope she has a speedy recovery.
That's good news!
I am glad to read that your mom is coming home and you are spending the weekend with her. :)
I wonder who your favorite literary mother is? While I doubt any fictional mom is by no means as exceptional as your own, I am still curious!
Thanks everyone ! It's a great weight off my shoulders to know the tumour is benign - and to know I'll be seeing my Mum myself tomorrow.
ThursdayNext, I don't have an immediate answer to your question of my favourite literary mother. It's not something I've really thought about - and in so much of the children's and fantasy literature that I read mothers are absent - often dead (usually because children are orphans so they can have adventures !)
I like Mrs Weasley, although she's a bit too domestic for my tastes - I think she'd get on my nerves after a while !
What a fantastic blog you have here: a treasure trove of literary opinion, and right up my street! Wish your mum all the very best from me: I hope she has a speedy road to full recovery, and enjoys many years of good health afterwards.
David (or should I call you "Duke" ? *grins*) thanks very much - both for the kind comments about my Blog and for the wishes for my Mum - I will certainly past those on to her when I speak with her later.
I promise I'll get your books out of the library some day soon and read/review them !
Good news, Michele! Hope your mum continues to improve.
(just for the record, my favourite literary mum is Moominmamma *grin*)
Thanks Debbie !
Do I detect another survey coming on ?? Hmm...
I was thinking about literary mothers on and off all day yesterday and I don't believe I do have a favourite: Momminmama is great, and as I said, I do like Mrs Weasley, but there is no literary mother whom I really like more than any other...
So glad your mum is on the mend! Wishing you all the best . . .
Thanks very much !
